Our Story

Faith, devotion and family

Master Lee's Taekwondo is a story where faith, devotion, and family values come together to create a lasting legacy.

The Journey Begins

The story of Master Lee's Taekwondo began in the summer of 2008, when Grandmaster Lee opened his first academy in Lincroft, New Jersey. Drawing upon his extensive experience as a former Korean military officer and Taekwondo instructor, he established a teaching philosophy rooted in military discipline and structure. His distinctive "army style" approach to training fostered an environment of focus, respect, and discipline, principles that remain central to the academy's teaching philosophy today.

Grandmaster Lee's expertise in the martial arts has earned him recognition as one of the world's leading Taekwondo instructors. His lifelong dedication to the art has not only shaped the lives of countless students but has also earned him prestigious appointments, including his role as the U.S. National Team Director, where his leadership helped guide American Taekwondo athletes to national and world championship titles.

The Home of Champions

The opening of his academy became the training ground for Grandmaster Lee's sons, Master Jung and Master Min, to train under his expert guidance. Growing up in the dojang, both sons excelled in competition, achieving national recognition as top-level sparring competitors with multiple state and national championships under their belts.

After establishing their own successful competition careers, Master Jung and Master Min made the decision to step away from competition to focus on what mattered most: sharing their father's teachings and building the next generation of Taekwondo students. With a shared vision, they dedicated themselves fully to the academy, ensuring its growth and success as a family-owned business while simultaneously pursuing full-time academics throughout their high school and university years.

A Family Affair

With his two sons now teaching alongside him, Grandmaster Lee witnessed an immediate and enthusiastic response from the community as families across Monmouth County recognized the exceptional quality of instruction and genuine passion the Lee family brought to every class. Over time, the academy became much more than just a school; it became a second home for students, where character development and personal growth were valued just as highly as technical excellence.

Yet, to the Lee family, their greatest joy has never come from the number of championships won, black belts earned, or years spent teaching, but from witnessing their students carry the lessons they have instilled beyond the dojang to accomplish their dreams.

Over the years, the Lee family has had the privilege of watching students who first stepped onto the mats as young as four years old grow into remarkable young men and women. They consider it a great honor to have contributed to their students' success as they pursue their dreams of attending Ivy League universities and prestigious military academies, while others have built distinguished careers in medicine, business, and beyond.

These stories stand as a testament to what nearly two decades of teaching have shown the Lee family:

A New Chapter

From Monmouth County to Frisco

After nearly two decades of teaching and serving families across Monmouth County, the Lee family felt called to share their family story with a new community. Leaving behind the academy they had spent 18 years building was no easy decision, but what followed would become a remarkable testament to the impact of their work and the legacy they had built.

In June 2026, the Lee family entrusted ownership of their academy to two of their senior students, Masters Michael and Matthew Mrotzek, a father and son team who became the first students under Grandmaster Lee to attain the rank of Master Instructor. Their journey from dedicated students to accomplished Masters, along with the relationships they had built as beloved members of the community, made them natural successors to carry forward Grandmaster Lee's legacy. Today, they continue to uphold the academy's standards, values, and reputation as one of Monmouth County's premier family-led martial arts programs.

With the legacy of their New Jersey academy now in trusted hands, the Lee family were ready to bring their family's rich history, traditions and standards to a vibrant and growing city. In January of 2027, the Lee family officially opened the first Master Lee's Taekwondo in Frisco, TX, and embarked on a new journey of sharing their family story to the next generation of Taekwondo students.

Building upon the foundation established by their father, Master Jung and Master Min became the driving forces behind Master Lee's Taekwondo. As Grandmaster Lee continues to guide and mentor his sons, Master Jung and Master Min now carry the torch and build upon the legacy their father established nearly two decades ago. With a shared vision, they write the next chapter of their family's story, passing on the wisdom of the past to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
